Once you register on the Saugeen Drives Driver App, our system will send a unique secure upload link to your registered email address. Use that link to upload all the documents listed below for verification.
1. Driver’s Licence
Your valid Ontario Driver’s Licence (Class G) is mandatory.
Why it’s required:
- Confirms that you are legally authorized to operate a vehicle in Ontario.
- Ensures you meet the minimum driving eligibility requirements.
- Helps Saugeen Drives verify your identity and driving privileges.
How to get or renew:
- If your licence is expired or expiring soon, please visit the ServiceOntario website or a ServiceOntario location to renew it.
2. Vehicle’s Safety Standards Certificate (SSC)
The Safety Standards Certificate verifies that your vehicle meets the minimum safety standards required by the Ministry of Transportation Ontario (MTO).
Why it’s required:
- Ensures that the vehicle you’re using for ridesharing is roadworthy and safe for passengers.
- Required by law for commercial or ridesharing vehicles in many municipalities.
How to get it:
- The SSC must be issued by a licensed Motor Vehicle Inspection Station (MVIS) after a vehicle inspection.

3. Ministry of Transportation Driver’s Abstract
This is an official record of your driving history in Ontario.
Why it’s required:
- Allows us to assess your past driving behavior and ensure that you’re a responsible and low-risk driver.
- Helps protect both you and passengers by reducing the chance of incidents.
How to get it:
- Request your abstract online through the Ministry of Transportation Ontario website.
4. Vulnerable Sector Check (including Criminal Record Check)
This background check must be completed through your local police department and must include the Vulnerable Sector Screening.
Why it’s required:
- Ensures the safety of all passengers, including children, seniors, and vulnerable individuals.
- Confirms that you do not have a history of serious criminal offenses that would affect rider safety.
How to get it:
- Visit or contact your local police department to request a Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Check eligibility and documentation requirements on your local police service’s website (Police Department Link).
5. A Clear Photo of Yourself
We require a clear, front-facing photo of you with a neutral background.
Why it’s required:
- Used in the app so riders can recognize their driver.
- Helps build rider trust and ensures a professional presentation on the platform.
Tips:
- Wear appropriate attire.
- Make sure your face is clearly visible without sunglasses or a hat.
- No filters or effects.
6. Proof of Vehicle Insurance
You must submit a copy of your valid vehicle insurance certificate.
Why it’s required:
- Confirms that your vehicle is legally insured.
- Protects both you and your passengers in the event of an accident.
Note: Be sure that your insurance is active and clearly shows your name and the vehicle’s details.
7. GST/HST Number (Register with Canada Revenue Agency)
As a driver with Saugeen Drives, you are considered an independent contractor and are responsible for registering your own business.
Why it’s required:
- The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) requires ride-sharing drivers to register for a GST/HST number if you earn more than $30,000/year.
- This ensures your tax filings are compliant and allows Saugeen Drives to issue accurate transaction summaries.
How to register:
- Visit the CRA’s online portal to register for a business number and HST account: CRA HST Registration.
- You may register as a sole proprietor or incorporate your business first.
