Vehicle Safety Standards

Before driving with Saugeen Drives, your vehicle must meet all safety requirements set by local regulations:

  1. You must provide a valid Safety Standards Certificate (SSC) of Mechanical Fitness for your vehicle, confirming it is safe to operate on public roads.
  2. The SSC must be issued within 30 days before you submit your driver application.
  3. Vehicles are exempt from the SSC requirement if:
    • They have traveled less than 20,000 kilometers, or
    • They were first registered as a new vehicle within the last 12 months, unless the vehicle has been involved in an accident.
  4. The cost of obtaining the SSC is the responsibility of the driver.
  5. A copy of the SSC must be submitted to Saugeen Drives as part of your application process.

The SSC must be issued by a licensed Motor Vehicle Inspection Station (MVIS) after a vehicle inspection. Learn more or find a nearby inspection location at the MTO Vehicle Safety Standards page.

We require this certificate to ensure all vehicles on the Saugeen Drives platform meet high safety standards and provide peace of mind for both drivers and passengers.
